The members of Westover Hills Church of Christ were very specific about
the spiritual and physical experience they wanted in their new Auditorium.
Having had their religious services for years in a boxy, windowless, and
over crowded auditorium, they wanted a different ambience within their
new expansion. However, they did want to retain two features from the
old auditorium even with the church's growth. First, they wanted everyone
to still feel connected during worship services and second, they wanted
their acappella voices to fill the space. The new auditorium design
incorporated several features to address those desires including high
vaulted ceilings throughout and clerestory windows along its perimeter to
give the auditorium a light and airy feel. Its irregular shaped volume
and open worship space created a lively acoustical environment, perfect
for acappella singing. Its fan shaped auditorium and balcony seating
created a contiguous connection with the lower floor, enabling the
interaction of the worshippers during services. The auditorium was
subsequently renovated and updated to change with the times. First,
the three original rear projection screens were replaced with a large
LED screen. Later, the pulpit and stage were enlarged and expanded.
